Retake, Union Square poem – Yuyutsu Sharma poems | Poetry Monster

In Whole Foods Café
I sip my Ceylon tea
crushing oatmeal cookie
on a long shared table
facing a fish faced
slender girl, Caliban-like,
smell of an alien body,
her ash grey hair
done into a regular chignon,
filthy, motley, twisted
at an eerie angle,
an antenna of her frizzled mind…
She slurps her
Organic pumpkin soup, and blood rushes
into her bookish face.
She takes her coat off
and bends, rustles
her gray woolen scarf
and adjusts her bra,
pulling the straps, flashing the round
planets of her hidden galaxies…
I shudder in awe,
and lift my head
above the steaming cup
of Ceylon brew
to look at her nostrils again…
