AWA’ wi’ your witchcraft o’ Beauty’s alarms,
The slender bit Beauty you grasp in your arms,
O, gie me the lass that has acres o’ charms,

Your Beauty’s a flower in the morning that blows,

But the rapturous charm o’ the bonie green knowes,

And e’en when this Beauty your bosom hath blest
The brightest o’ Beauty may cloy when possess’d;

Robert Burns

Robert Burns, (born January 25, 1759, Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland—died July 21, 1796, Dumfries, Dumfriesshire), national poet of Scotland. He wrote lyrics, ballads and songs in Scots and in English. He was also notable for his amorous adventures and his rebellion against religion and morality.
